IRONWOOD FOREST NATIONAL PARK

The Ironwood Forest is the largest remaining area of original natural habitat now remaining in the George Town area. It is a mosaic of freshwater wetlands, dry forest and dry shrubland, which due to the elevated humidity provided by the wetland, supports an exceptionally high diversity of native plants and animals including several endangered and endemic species found nowhere else in the world.
The National Conservation Council (NCC) is inviting the public to review and provide comments on the proposal to protect the Crown Parcel (15B 392) within the Ironwood Forest. The Crown Parcel (15B 392) proposed for protection represents 19% of the total Ironwood Forest area. The Council remains keen to discuss opportunities to collaborate on conservation of the entire Ironwood Forest area and its unique species.
